They had me with "the drums of battle ...". Im so much excited, i cant think straight. Drums, oh man, imaging that! The one and only thing Warband misses. Thats why my secrete favorite always was mount & musket. Drums finally. And the name Bannerlord. So much creativity and such a recognisable name. Damn. Still looking forward to this.  :bag:

They call it mnb2 but we all know it's going to be the exact same game with just a tiny bit of upgrades and some changes here and there :P

That's cool though, new players incoming, maybe that'll expand the community a bit.
More people = MOAR FUN

Besides, if Bannerlord would like a bit nicer than WB, can't say no to that. :D

Wouldn't say that was cool. Warband feels unfinished and unpolished.

Its quite obvious that they havent gotten anywhere in the production of this game. So we're in for a looooong wait. Personally I try not to look that far ahead, but enjoy they games that are available at the moment instead. (WotR fanbois unite!)

After playing Warband for 2 years, this game needs to impress me with a lot of improvements to get my attention. If its just another Warband with up to date graphics I'd be disappointed.

EDIT: Also, that was one of the worst trailers I've seen.  :))
Title: Re: Mount&Blade II: Bannerlords Announced
Post by: David on September 28, 2012, 09:30:37 PM
Sorry to all the WotR fanbois :O, but I think this will be a better game than that, for me the M+B series is about gameplay and less about looks, looking forward to this but i don't think it should be called a trailer, it's just an official announcement video. I Hope that's it's exactly like M+B warband but just improved gameplay. WotR may big a 'big thing' but it's focused too much on graphics and last time I played it was far too slow and sluggish and the fps rate was terrible.

If the graphics are average but gameplay good I'll be happy, but if they go down the WotR route I won't, I hoped that WotR  was going to be a good game but frankly I'm disappointed to put it nicely. Though I agree the name is rubbish.

I hope that as in Warband, there'll be early beta stages, and that the developpers will use the forums again as a means of communication to the beta players.

Beta really made Warband better, let's hope they do teh same approach for Bannerlord.

Post by: ryozu on September 28, 2012, 09:42:46 PM
I didn't have anything against the name Bannerlord until I realized that to distinguish it from Warband I would have to always call it Bannerlord. M&B2 just too long to say. Perhaps maybe just "two." Or "the second."

You are correct, this is not a trailer. Simply an announcement, making it known that the game is in development. We won't see gameplay for some time, if ever until the release...

What I mean is: Admin Tool, Bigger Servers etc. is made by the community for the community. Developing the game is actually the task of the developers. Of course it's nice of them to keep the game moddable, but they should at least provide stuff like an useful Admin Tool.
Title: Re: Mount&Blade II: Bannerlords Announced
Post by: Miwiw on October 01, 2012, 03:54:19 PM
Oh well... developing the game is their work, until the game works! Then the community is doing most parts.

Just see Skyrim now. There will be (or already is) an official DLC which introduces Housing to Skyrim... but what did the community do? They already created a free and probably far better mod themselves...
Same happened with Oblivion.

Also a good example is WoW... community created many new HUDs and mods making things easier for the player. By now Blizzard took at least half of that over and now its actually possible to play WoW without any mod.. :P

Title: Re: Mount&Blade II: Bannerlords Announced

It's their job however to fix bugs. The game isn't that huge, especially the multiplayer part. Maybe I'm thinking in different catogeries, but developing the multi player, which de facto didn't happen in Warband, is actually the devs job.
Creating single player mods and improvements is something what the community does. But games like Dota are just so popular because developers do permanently new stuff and tweak things so the game is dynamic and changes.
Title: Re: Mount&Blade II: Bannerlords Announced
Post by: yourNotAlone on October 02, 2012, 12:29:52 PM
Well, but Dota and Warband aren't the same thing. You can't simply add new weapons or new character classes to warband. But I agree with you, devs should really pay more attetion on their game.
Btw. the community is what makes this game so unique and loved by some many peps.
Title: Re: Mount&Blade II: Bannerlords Announced
Post by: TheBard on October 04, 2012, 04:30:42 PM
It's rather comparing. I don't expect the devs to add permanently new weapons for example, that would overload the game. I expect them to polish their game, improving performance, weapons, maps, balancing out things.
Never ever the Devs listened to the community in terms of Multiplayer. No archer nerf, a buff. No Infantry buff, a nerf and so on.

Well... I don't know what to say! It can't be named 'trailer', it's soo strange. O_o Thing that TW's making new part of M&B makes me happy. This 'trailer' does not.
Title: Re: Mount&Blade II: Bannerlords Announced

People seem dead set on calling this a trailer, it's not really a trailer just an official announcement, sort of like Skyrim's teaser. The trailers come when they actually have enough material to show something.

It's rather hard to listen to the Warband community in total though, I mean, the amount of different opinions, all for which valid points can be made.
I guess I understand the devs "If it works, let's leave it be."

PS: Limit archers to 1% of the team plis.

20% cav
20% Archers
60% infantry

That's a good class limit for teams. :)

why class limit's though? that makes it all much less interesting :P. Forced class limits is a bad idea, but there's no real problem as having it as an admin option I guess, and letting server admins decide.

More character visual customisation (fatties, lankies).

Post by: Ivarr on October 07, 2012, 03:07:39 PM
Since we are already discussing our dreams regarding the game, I'll join in.

I wouldn't like class limits either. I like variety. I quite like that some maps encourage having greater number of one class while some other map does the same with other class. Although, it can get silly. I understand many don't think the same way. That's why some people quit when a more open map with hills comes up - they don't like the increased number of archer. They also quit when a flatter, open map comes up - they don't like too many cavalry. They even quit when a narrow circle street map comes out - they don't like to be mowed down by that circling infantry horde. Basically, people quit when they can't play their favourite class the way they want to play it. And I'm quite sure if you forced most people to play infantry, some would quit, too. Except they couldn't return for the next map. Now I wonder why such a nice mod like Vikingr isn't more popular than it is.

I find it weird that infantry is always glorified over other classes. Somehow most people expect that infantry should be more than other classes and that infantry should do most of the killing. Why infantry? Why not cavalry, for example? I play infantry and I don't feel that way. I find the enemy teams that are mostly infantry to be rather dull. I prefer mixed teams.

A while ago, Alexander published kills statistics collected from the IG_Battlegrounds logs. It turned out each class is responsible for about third of the kills (infantry/melee was the winner). That is good, eh? No? Hmm...

Anyway, about the game: I don't want a whole new game. I like Warband and if I had a new, better one, I'd be most glad. I'd like to see various improvements and fixes:

I wonder about the game engine. It's ancient. If they build the new game on it, it may not be visually as appealing as some would expect in present day.

^
It somehow turned out to be too long and too much like a rant :bag:.

Post by: Crusader on October 07, 2012, 05:52:37 PM
I agree with Ivar. There's no point in forcing the teams in having the same number of class limitation.

Less arrows, less accuracy, less drawing speed. Less reload time.

Less FPS game.

Post by: Mordgrim on October 08, 2012, 12:39:07 AM
I only played cav and inf in Warband, but I never felt archery or the crossbow to be overpowered. Annoying to non archers sometimes, but definately not overpowered in a game where shields function as a force field which stops everything from a direction.

I do however think the crossbowman is slighty overpowered due to his versatility.

It basicly is like that though, yes you can be footshot, but an archer has to be pretty damn good to consistently footshot somebody.
Oh, and yes pikestuns, but that's not relevant for archers/crossbows.

The only real thing I'd nerf is shooting through shields.

I just wish they'd fix the fricking collision detection. Like shields blocking attacks from behind, or under the horse. Or people walking up to you with an attack readied, their weapon through your held up shield, then release and hit. Or attacks sometimes being blocked by environment and sometimes being able to go through them.

Oh, and remove lolspins.

To Nedsat:

Athletics of infantry should be higher.

Jump shooting should be disabled. [disabled in WotR, no attacks with either melee or ranged weapons possible while jumping]

The angle of where an archer get bumped when an enemy walks into him while he is holding an ready ranged weapon should be way wider and maybe even also from a farther distance.

The time it takes to switch weapon from a bow/xbow to melee weapon should be longer so it isn't posible to shoot at melee ranged and switch weapon to block before you opponent can counter. [in WotR you can charge the archer at such speed you can often get a hit in before he switches to melee weapons]

Archers shouldn't be able to pick up the heaviest equipment (like the big 2handers) [in WotR there is no pickup of others equipment]

Number of arrows/bolts per quiver should be reduced by 30% [in Wotr you start with 10 arrows in your quiver without perks, can be upped to 25 with double quiver perk]

The basic (and free) bows should be nerfed so it would actually make sense to upgrade it and not giving archers an armor advantage over cav and inf where nothing of their free gear is the best you can get. [in WotR the cheapest bows are crappy, and heavy armor can be worn but it significantly reduces the archery rate of fire to gimphood]

Horse bump should require a more frontal collision (that bs when you get bumped by a horse by standing to close to its side jezz) [Ive bumped countless people in WotR, never managed to do it to the side]

Horses should be bit less vulnerable to ranged attacks
Horses should be more vulnerable to melee attacks.
Damage bonus at low speed should be down scaled heavily. [in WotR I cavalry is currently severly nerfed, it remains to be seen how they pan out on the coming days/weeks]

Makes me sad to think of all these things  [did I forget to mention WotR?  ;) ]

Swinging your weapon while jumping is one of the things I forgot to mention. Hitting something when jumping forward, or down from somewhere, is fun and can be useful - I'd keep it. I'd nerf the jumps vertically. Characters shouldn't be able to jump as high as they jump in Warband. That nerf would cause issues with getting around the map, though. So, the character should be able to climb over small fences and such. Also, you shouldn't be able to swing behind you while jumping forward.

It's easy to nerf archers to be less effective and not fun. I was thinking maybe nerfing their melee efficiency would be good. Archers' melee stats could be lowered, but if you take away too much you'll end up losing fights even if you are fairly proficient in melee. Your character would simply be too slow, or not hit hard enough, and you'd get spammed to death, for instance. That would be frustrating. I'd rather nerf their starting equipment.

Spoiler
In WotR, your horse has gears and your arrows respawn .

Archer fatigue could be one way to go - if you rapidly shoot arrows, you (your arm) will be fatigued, and you continue losing accuracy. A short break or much slower rate of fire would restore accuracy.
that's really a nice thing that should be added

but anyway i prefer a lot warband melee fighting instead of Wotr at the moment

The angle of where an archer get bumped when an enemy walks into him while he is holding an ready ranged weapon should be way wider and maybe even also from a farther distance.

And to make this more fun in wotr you can shoot all the time no bump, so inf stands inside of you and you can still shoot.

The time it takes to switch weapon from a bow/xbow to melee weapon should be longer so it isn't posible to shoot at melee ranged and switch weapon to block before you opponent can counter. [in WotR you can charge the archer at such speed you can often get a hit in before he switches to melee weapons] Or the infantry guy get's one hit KO, becouse of the charge.

Archers shouldn't be able to pick up the heaviest equipment (like the big 2handers) [in WotR there is no pickup of others equipment] They plan to add it later.

Number of arrows/bolts per quiver should be reduced by 30% [in Wotr you start with 10 arrows in your quiver without perks, can be upped to 25 with double quiver perk] My machine gun archer rarely runs out of arrows becouse the refill, so with the double quiver you have like 30 arrows if you keep spaming them and did i mention the officer perk?

The basic (and free) bows should be nerfed so it would actually make sense to upgrade it and not giving archers an armor advantage over cav and inf where nothing of their free gear is the best you can get. [in WotR the cheapest bows are crappy, and heavy armor can be worn but it significantly reduces the archery rate of fire to gimphood] There is no bad bow in wotr and I can prove it if you want. Actually bow in wotr is way stronger than in warband. for one simple reason shooting in wotr is extreamly easy.

Horse bump should require a more frontal collision (that bs when you get bumped by a horse by standing to close to its side jezz) [Ive bumped countless people in WotR, never managed to do it to the side]

Well, that's what I tried to say, but burning people would be nice aswell, running around burning and taking damage - and dieing after a short time.
Also it would be cool to let wooden weapons burn, like burning bamboospears or burning arrows. Perhaps to burn Siege equipment aswell.

Oh, imagine the wonderful troll posibilities if you could set people on fire  :)) Nah, I think I'd leave that alone.

In general I just wish there would be less unpredictable outcomes in the game. There are way too many ugly situations, like teleporting horsemen when the horse dies, weapon ghost reach or unblockable instant stabs. It should always be possible to react to what you see and not just "hope" that the game is telling you the truth -- because let's face it, at the moment the game is a lying bitch  :P

Sign-up form for beta: https://beta.taleworlds.com/

EDIT: apparently hasn't been officially published, and there's a chance of your application being disregarded if you submit it before then.

Nice! Only early access, though and it seems full release and modding tools will require yet more waiting:

Just to jump in, sorry to burst the bubble or put a bit of a downer on it, but I think Tolga is a bit off the mark here. But it does make me happy that with his work in QA he feels that the game is a lot closer to release than is actually true. We are launching in Early Access in March 2020 and we aren't making any false assumptions or promises about that. The game will not be feature complete at that time and there will still be a long road to go after that where we work alongside our community to bring the game to the level that we all hope it will be at.

@NPC99 - It is highly likely that we will release the modding tools alongside the full release and not before.

@SenorZorros - In this instance we would actually encourage you to hold on to your money until you feel the game is ready for you to enjoy. The game has a lot of content, there is no doubt about that, but if you want a complete experience you should wait until launch.

@Vairly -The game will not be feature complete during EA. You should definitely wait until full release if you want to play the game in its entirety with everything it has to offer.

They will begin processing the beta application forms. The keys will be sent in waves, targeting different user groups, starting next week.
